Testing Facilitation


Before accepting any test accommodation request, each term instructors should have in their possession the OAS accommodation letter authorizing test accommodations for the student.

At least five days before the test date, the instructor should expect the student to make the request by submitting an exam request online.

OAS informs students that they must make their request for test accommodations in a timely manner or they may not have the opportunity to be accommodated.

An electronic authorization will be submitted to the faculty's email. Please be clear about any testing instructions including any tools/materials (i.e. calculators) that are allowed and how the exam should be delivered.

Indicate the amount of time the class is allowed for the exam. Generally, the start time will be the same of the class. However, if the student needs additional testing time and has classes both directly before and after your class, negotiate an alternative time with the student. 

Faculty should send tests to OAS at least 24 hours in advance of test time. Tests can be submitted in the following ways:

Completed tests can be returned in the following ways. If delivered to a designated office, a signature of a department representative will be collected. The delivery receipt will be kept on file at OAS for one year after the test administration date.

  • OAS staff will deliver to a designated department in a sealed envelope
  • Professors can pick up the exams from OAS, or
  • The student can deliver the exam in a sealed envelope

Students are instructed to discuss any testing arrangements during your office hours or to make an appointment to ensure enough time and privacy for this discussion. If they approach you after class to sign their forms, feel free to ask them to come to your office hours.

If a student is approved for extended time, the extension should be given for tests and in-class work only. This does not apply to work that is done outside of class, except in rare cases that will be stated clearly in the accommodation letter from OAS.

OAS is committed to providing a secure testing environment. Tests are secured in a locked office. All students are required to adhere to Emory University Student Academic Integrity Policy.
