Sexual Misconduct Policy Flowchart

Once a complaint of sexual misconduct has been received by the University, the University will conduct an investigation, and consider whether any interim measures need to be implemented pending an investigation to protect the health and safety of individuals and the University community. Depending on the nature and severity of the conduct reported, the University may be required to share all known information, including names, with law enforcement, but an individual always has the option as to whether to participate in an investigation, and may decline to do so. The University is committed to protecting the safety of the Emory community, which includes reporting crime statistics and, in some cases, issuing public safety notices in accordance with federal law. 

Most University employees – called “Responsible Employees” are required to report any knowledge of an incident of sexual or gender-based harassment or sexual misconduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator.  Licensed clinical health and mental health care providers, and pastoral counselors are considered confidential resources and are not required to report allegations of sexual misconduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator. The Office of Respect (Atlanta campus) and the Health Educator/Coordinator of Student Support (Oxford campus) also will speak with you confidentially, but are mandated to provide information about the incident, without providing names of individuals involved, to the Emory Police Department and Title IX coordinator.  A detailed explanation of disclosure obligations may be obtained from the Office of Respect and the Health Educator/Coordinator of Student Support.
